Today we flew out to Sri Lanka, where my brother was getting married. I had never been to Sri Lanka before and so was really excited. We also managed to get upgraded by Emirates on the leg between Dubai and Sri Lanka to business class, which was a massive bonus!
On arrival in Colombo, Sri Lanka, we found our car and headed off on the first part of our tour. My parents and I were visiting Kandy before we headed down to Galle where the wedding was going to be, so we said our temporary goodbyes to my brother and soon-to-be sister-in-law at the airport.
The roads in Sri Lanka were really terrible and not exactly what you need after a long overnight flight with very little sleep. Tuk tuks were swerving in and out of cars and at times I genuinely feared for my life! However, despite really wanting to get to our hotel I managed to persuade my parents that we should stop at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage on the way. I’m so glad we did because the elephants were so cute playing in the water. It saddened me to see them being led back to their homes as they looked like they had been having so much fun!
Back on the road and we final made it to our hotel – straight to our rooms for naps!
