Our final day in Kandy and we decided to head to the Ceylon Tea Museum, a short drive from the city. We drove up into the hills, passing waterfalls on the way and tea pickers in the fields. Tea production is one of the most important resources in Sri Lanka and it is the world’s fourth largest producer of tea which is incredible given its size.
When we got to the tea museum we saw how the whole tea process worked; from the picking of the leaves in the fields through to all the old machinery in the factory used to process the tea, and finally onto the tasting stage, where we sampled some of the local tea flavours. My mum is a massive tea drinker so this was the best part of the day for her!
Next stop Galle for my brother’s wedding – so excited!
