There is no doubt about it - Venice is one of the most unique and beautiful places in the world; well certainly of all the places I have been to anyway. The city is made up of lots of tiny islands with canals flowing through the city and bridges going over the canals creating a very idyllic setting, highlighted further by the exquisite Gothic architecture. You can certainly understand why so many artists have spent their time recreating this already existant piece of artwork. The most enjoyable way to see the city is on a gondola ride where you can sit back and relax whilst a lovely Italian man steers you around the canals. The cultural hub of the 'piazza San Marco' is also an essential part of anyone's trip with the Basilica di San Marco, Doge's palace (judicial building) and Torre dell'Orologio (clock tower).
